How to set a budget & manage subscriptions

While many Google Play apps are available at no charge, you may want to purchase a premium app or in-app content. Learn how to do so safely and how to keep tabs on your Play expenses below.

Budget & track monthly spending

Want help keeping track of your spending? Set a Google Play budget: Tap your profile icon on the right side of the search bar, then select “Payments & subscriptions > “Budget & history.” Next, tap “Set budget,” enter your monthly budget, and hit “Save.”

If you're close to or over your budget, you’ll get a message every time you buy an item from your account. Curious how you’re trending? Go back to “Budget & history” and you’ll see how much you’ve spent this month at the top.
Tip
Your monthly budget history is stored in your Google Account, but it’s removed after 1 year.

Manage subscriptions

Subscriptions on Google Play are for an indefinite term, and you’ll be charged at the beginning of each billing cycle according to your subscription terms (for example, weekly or annually), unless you unsubscribe.

Important: When you uninstall an app, your subscription won't cancel. To cancel a subscription, tap your profile icon, then select “Payments & subscriptions” > “Subscriptions.” Tap the subscription you want to cancel, then choose “Cancel subscription.”

Purchase safely & securely

With Google Play's billing system, you can safely and securely purchase digital products and in-app content, including subscriptions. Your payment information is securely stored to your Google Account and will not be shared with app developers. If you experience an issue with a purchase made through Google Play’s billing system, you can request a refund through Google Play.

In the United States, you can use credit or debit cards, mobile phone billing, PayPal, Google Pay balance, and gift cards as methods of payment.

To add a form of payment to your Google Play account, tap your profile icon, then select “Payments & Subscriptions” > “Payment methods.” Follow the instructions to add the payment method of your choice.
Tip
To prevent accidental purchases, you can require authentication anytime you make a purchase.
