Every Pokémon type in Pokémon Go

This guide will walk you through the basics of Pokémon types, from their strengths and weaknesses to a few example Pokémon for each of Pokémon Go's 18 types. By learning the ins and outs of each type, you can create a team that will succeed against the toughest Raid bosses – as well as competition from other Trainers.

What are 'types' and why do they matter?

Types indicate the properties of a particular Pokémon or attack. Most types follow the elements – fire, water, etc. – but others are a bit more abstract, like Dark-type or Fairy-type. Each type has an entire catalogue of moves and species underneath it, and some Pokémon even sport two types at once.
Types are more than just indicators of a Pokémon’s abilities; they also play a key role in battle. There's a 'rock-paper-scissors' element to types, where one type might be strong against one type, but weak against another.
For example, Fire-type attacks deal more damage to Grass-type Pokémon, but less to Water types. Knowing the strengths and weaknesses of each type is key to winning your next Pokémon Go battle.
Below is a full list of all 18 Pokémon types in Pokémon Go. It includes each type's main strengths and weaknesses, as well as a few examples of Pokémon that fit the description. Use this guide to build a well-rounded team, and you'll be able to handle any Pokémon that stand in your way.
