Make new connections and more on Tinder

Whether you're on the hunt for your next adventure, a new friend or even a happily ever after, Tinder is your ticket to countless new connections. You've downloaded the app and hyped yourself up – now what does it take to start swiping?

Tinder's sign-up process is designed to paint a clear picture of who you are, helping you to find more compatible matches. Start by providing your first name and birthday to verify your age. Then, share your gender identity, sexual orientation and who you're interested in seeing. Optional details, such as lifestyle habits or your zodiac sign, can further personalise your profile.

Launching the app takes you to your stack, where you can select potential matches. Swipe right to like a profile or swipe left if you're not interested in someone. You only get 100 likes a day, so swipe wisely! If you really like someone, you can upgrade to a Tinder subscription and swipe up to send them a Super Like. This lets them know that you Super Liked them, meaning that you'll stand out on their stack.

Tap the second icon on your navigation bar to explore more curated recommendations. Here, you'll discover people who are looking for the same Vibe, such as 'Free tonight' or 'Coffee date'. Tap a Vibe, followed by 'Join now' to start swiping within that Vibe. Under the For you section, you'll also find Vibe recommendations based on tags that you've added to your profile, such as 'Binge watchers' or 'Music lovers'.

Now that you've matched with each other, it's time to turn those swipes into sparks. Tap the Chat tab to the left of your Profile tab on the navigation bar to get a conversation going. Go with your best opening line or even send your favourite GIF as an icebreaker by tapping the GIF icon in the bottom-right corner.

If you've really hit it off with someone and want to go beyond messages, tap the video call icon in the upper-right corner to have a face-to-face chat.

Tap the profile icon at the bottom-right corner to view your profile. By tapping the edit icon above your profile photo, you can add more recent photos, edit your bio or even update the tags that you provided when setting up. You can also add more details to help your profile stand out, such as your anthem or your most recent Instagram photos.

To get more out of the app, you can tap the Subscriptions button on your Profile tab to see what upgrades are available. Some of these perks include unlimited likes, Rewinds to backtrack to a profile if you swiped left accidentally, Super Likes and Boosts to show you as a top profile in your area for 30 minutes.
