Explore video overlay

As a video creator, you might want to show your audience two things at once. Enter video layering. This effect is great for reaction clips and showing both people’s faces during interviews. It’s also a handy tool for sharing side-by-side shots during presentations, or just getting creative with your videos.

Choose your clips

Start a new project by selecting your main video. To add your second video, tap the “Overlay” tool on the bottom menu, then “Add overlay,” and choose your secondary video. Resize the window of the overlay video to cover as much of the screen as you’d like.

From there, you can make edits to each clip separately by tapping the one you want to work with. As a first order of business, we recommend adjusting your clips’ length using the sliders.
Tip
You can add captions to your main video by tapping “Text” then selecting “Auto Captions” before adding your overlay video.

Edit your audio

If you don’t want both clips at full blast, be sure to adjust the volume of each one. Just tap “Volume” to raise or lower the sound, or select “Mute clip audio” to silence it entirely. If you want audio on just one part of a clip, split it into multiple clips and adjust separately.

Add finishing touches

As with most editing apps, CapCut adds a watermark at the end of your project. To remove it, just tap and delete the “Ending” section of the video before exporting your creation.
