How to increase your Township population

Township features a variety of tasks – farming, construction and more – in order to build a community in your town. Population is a very important metric in the world of Township, and you'll need to know how to build your numbers in order to flourish.
This guide will tell you everything you need to know about adding to your population in Township. There are two key figures – number of people currently in town and the max number of people possible – and both are dependent on the choices you make. With these tips, you'll always be able to welcome more citizens into your community.

Population basics

Gaining population in Township is one of the most important mechanics of the game. After all, if no one lives in the town, no one can do the work necessary to build it into the thriving community that you want it to be.
As more people enter your community, larger projects can be started, which then allows for more resource production and fast levelling up of your town. Without people, none of this is possible, so make increasing your population a mandatory task throughout the game.

Build more houses

The main way to add people to your town is to build them houses. It's pretty self-explanatory when you think about it; people need somewhere to live, so building houses, flats and more will provide what they need to be a productive member of your society.
In the beginning, you'll have smaller houses with limited capacity at your disposal. As you level up your town, however, you'll soon gain access to high-rise flats and owner occupied flats, which will add a major boost to your resident numbers with a single build.

Complete community building tasks

Housing can only grow your population up to a point. Eventually, you’ll reach your population cap. To increase the maximum number of residents that your town can hold, you'll need to invest in community buildings. You’ll receive new community building requests when you unlock new levels.
Police stations, hospitals, supermarkets and similar buildings will affect your total possible population cap, all the way up to the in-game maximum of over 45,000 residents. Make sure that you mix some community building projects in with your housing builds, and you shouldn't have a problem maintaining a steady growth in overall population numbers.

Other population tips

As your township grows, you'll need to clear fields in order to build more houses. That costs in-game money, and you might be tempted to sell a house or two in order to afford the field clearing. However, selling a house will decrease the number of people living in your town. With a decreased population, you won’t get any more fields until your numbers increase again.
Also, you'll need to keep your growing population working in factories and farms in order to keep up with construction for new residents. Routinely check the barn, railway station and other means in order to manage and use your resources effectively. It wouldn’t be ideal to finally unlock a high-rise flat, only to lack the wood needed to build it.
