As the name of the game itself suggests, Clash Of Clans is all about taking your soldiers out into the world and battling against other strong clans to see where you stand. Once you've joined a clan and linked up with some allies, you can do so with one of the game's most popular events: Clan Wars.
This guide will take you through everything you need to know about Clan Wars, from the preparation phase all the way to how best to use the spoils once you've won. There's a lot you should know going into a Clan War, and we've got you covered on all of it.
What are Clan Wars?
A Clan War is a limited-time event where clans are matched up against other clans of similar strength. Each side is given time to prepare, and once the action begins, all selected members of the clan have an opportunity to score points for their side. To participate in a Clan War, you should be a part of an in-game clan.
Once the battles have been waged, the results are tallied and a winner is declared based on which side gained more stars during the battle. The winning side then receives a massive bounty of rewards, including multiple types of Ore and piles of Gold, Elixir, Dark Elixir and more, to build more resources for more Clan Wars.
The three phases of a Clan War
- The Preparation Day is a 23-hour period where players can donate troops to the war effort, organise the clan's base and figure out how best to defend it, and scout enemy bases to strategise a plan of attack. For friendly Clan Wars, the preparation day can be set to as low as 15 minutes.
- Battle Day is when all of the battles of the war take place, with each member of both clans given two chances to launch an attack on an enemy's base. After that second attack has been executed, that member of the clan is out of contention for the rest of the Battle Day.
- After the battle, War Results tally up which side earned more stars during the Battle Day skirmishes and declares a winner, who then receives the prize rewards for their victory.
Each clan member participating in the war can contribute by donating troops to the main base. Once that's done, they can help scout the enemy base.
Battle Day then plays out like a normal Clash Of Clans battle, where the attacking player deploys troops to raid the base and destroy as many structures as possible, with either full destruction or troop decimation as the outcome.

To the victor goes the spoils
The winner of the Clan War receives a massive bounty of loot to split among its clan mates, which ranges from resources to rarity. The prizes up for grabs in a Clan War can include Gold, Elixir, Dark Elixir and Ores like Shiny Ore, Glowy Ore and Starry Ore to help upgrade their Hero Equipment.
Once you've received your share of the bounty, use it to build up your base, upgrade equipment and prepare for the next Clan War so you can earn even more loot.
