Best brawlers for every Brawl Stars mode

New players have a lot to wrap their heads around when they hop in for their first Brawl Stars match. Different play modes, different brawlers and different build options might seem overwhelming, but eventually you'll start recognising that some brawlers are simply better than others in specific modes.
In this guide, we're going to list a few brawler suggestions for specific match types, whether you want a core showdown experience or some alternative ways to play. You'll unlock most of these brawlers through normal progression and, once you have them, try them out in their best mode. You'll see what makes them so good in those scenarios.

Showdown

Your objective in Showdown is to be the last brawler standing. For this, Moe is the closest thing to being a sure thing that Brawl Stars have. His shovel slinger attack can cause multiple hits of damage in one shot, while his driller form makes him even more powerful, thanks to the speed boosts that successful attacks give him.
Draco is a close second to Moe – in this and every other mode as well – thanks to his tanky exterior's ability to absorb a whole lot of damage. He has an alternative form with a dragon that he can mount, whose fiery breath can corner and eliminate an enemy in no time at all. His normal lightning has a huge range, so he's formidable in either form.

Brawl Ball

If you're jumping into Brawl Stars' version of football, Jacky is a prime choice for taking to the pitch for you. Her star power, hardy hard hat, does a good job of defending the ball or ball carrier when needed, while one of her gadgets, the pneumatic booster, increases her speed by 25% for a few seconds, which could be all she needs to score the deciding goal.
Doug is another great choice for some brawl ball action but he depends on durability to make his mark. His base health is higher than most, while his ability to heal quickly makes him a brawler that can stay around for a while, winning skirmishes and moving the ball up the field. Moreover, he can both damage enemies and heal allies, increasing his effectiveness.

Gem grab

The mad dash that is gem grab is an arena where Clancy thrives. His strengths are suited to longer, more drawn-out matches like this. Collecting coins to raise Clancy's stage also makes him a scary enemy later on, as his attacks produce more paintballs per shot, while the damage output of his super is raised by over 25%.
If the crabby Clancy cramps your style, Mr P the penguin is another great choice for a gem grab match. His unique projectile porters, supported by his revolving door star power, travel a long distance and can produce extra fighters to stave off enemies as the plucky penguin collects the last few gems needed for victory.

Hot zone

Hot Zone's territory-capturing format is a great fit for Ash, thanks to his ability to cause increased damage to normal attacks via the rage meter, not to mention a super that produces multiple exploding drones. He can send these drones into an area that the teams are fighting over and take out his opponents in one fell swoop.
If Ash doesn't fit your game plan, Hank is another terrific option as both of his main attacks can deal with big groups at the same time. His normal balloon blast fills a balloon with water and then unleashes it, which can drive enemies away from the objective, while his super, Fish Torpedo, shoots six missiles in a single direction and can break up a group in a hurry.

Knockout

The three-on-three knockout mode is a great playground for Grom, the hood-wearing artillery-class character. His super, Grom Bomb, ejects projectiles that can be thrown over obstacles and target enemies who might be hiding behind some cover. This will help to flush them out and allow your teammates to take them out and win the round.
If obstacles aren't something that you're worried about, R-T's player-marking attacks will let you get the jump on any enemies who are trying to sneak around and ambush the team. His supers, Hide and Seek and Radio Waves, meanwhile, will split him into two, which can tip the scales in your favour by offering an extra attacker for a brief amount of time.
