How Gadgets work in Brawl Stars

In Brawl Stars, each Brawler has a basic attack that you can use a few times before it needs to recharge. But, after levelling up to a certain point, you'll also unlock Gadgets — limited-use attacks that can pack a wallop if used in the right way.
Here, we'll go over everything you need to know about Gadgets, including the level a Brawler requires to access them, the different ways to unlock each Brawler's unique Gadget and some examples of what they can do during a match. They are a valuable attack option for any Brawl Stars match and can provide you the edge you need to win.

What are gadgets?

Gadgets – represented by small green symbols in a character's loadout screen – are unique special abilities that you can equip and use during battles. Some Gadgets are direct attacks that can cause damage, while others are buffs that enhance a character's existing abilities.
Each Brawler in the game has two different Gadgets at their disposal, but each one is unlocked separately. Also, unlike Gears, each Brawler's Gadgets are unique to them, and no other Brawler in the game will be able to use them. A few examples of Gadgets and their abilities are below:
  • El Primo has the Asteroid Belt Gadget, which summons a large meteor down onto the map. Anyone caught under the meteor is dealt major damage, and any walls in its path are destroyed
  • 8-Bit's Extra Credits Gadget triples the amount of bullets it'll fire with its next basic attack, from 6 to 18
  • Barley can use the Herbal Tonic Gadget, which creates a healing zone that restores health for a limited time
  • Pam's Scrapsucker Gadget can steal ammo from her opponents to restore her own
  • When her bear companion is active, Nita can activate her Faux Fur Gadget to give the grizzly a shield, which negates all damage for a brief time

How to unlock Gadgets

To access Gadgets, a Brawler must be powered up to level 7 through the Upgrades on their individual character page. This does not refer to your overall account level, but the individual level of the character itself. Once the Brawler has been upgraded, you'll be able to go into the perks menu on the character's page and choose your Gadget.
From there, both of the character's gadgets can be unlocked with in-game Gold, with most of the gadgets costing 1,000 Gold to unlock. Eventually, you'll be able to unlock both of your chosen character's Gadgets, but you'll only be able to bring one of them into battle with you each time you load up a match.
Once you've made your choice, analyse how your chosen Gadget works for you in action. Getting the hang of an individual Gadget is absolutely worth it in the long run, so make sure you make them part of your game plan going forwards.
