How to get more characters in Genshin Impact

The most exciting part of Genshin Impact is its expansive cast of characters. However, unlocking new characters, especially the powerful five-star variety, is an involved process that can take some getting used to. Here's how you can fill out your roster and build powerful, effective teams.

Archon quests are the main story of Genshin Impact and playing through them is the primary way that you advance through the game. Working through these quests will also sometimes give you a few characters to build out your first team as part of the story. Once you advance to Adventure Rank 5, here are some of the characters that will join your party.

The primary method to acquire additional characters is through the Wish system. To make wishes, you'll need items called Intertwined Fate or Acquaint Fate, which can be obtained through gameplay or purchased with Primogems. Genshin Impact divides Wishes into different categories called Banners.

Occasionally, in-game events, like story quests and battles, offer characters as rewards upon completion. Engaging in these events can provide you with unique characters without using the Wish system.

By obtaining duplicate characters or weapons through wishes, you'll earn Masterless Starglitter and an opportunity to visit the Starglitter Exchange. Visit Paimon's Bargains in the in-game shop to exchange Starglitter for characters. The available characters in this shop rotate monthly, so check regularly for desired additions to your roster.

Another way to acquire characters is by progressing through the Spiral Abyss. You’ll be able to unlock characters, such as Xiangling – a Pyro polearm user obtained by clearing Floor 3, Chamber 3 – and Collei – a Dendro bow user rewarded for clearing Floor 4, Chamber 3. You’ll unlock the Spiral Abyss at Adventure Rank 20.
