But it quickly became clear that things at the Boulton family home weren’t quite as straightforward as they seemed. Despite its cutesy appearance, ads hinted that something sinister was bubbling away underneath the surface.

After nearly 20 years of neglect, Beaumont Hall has fallen into disrepair thanks to the Boulton family’s poor financial decisions. That’s when you, Maddie Boulton, step into this twisted tale of secrets after being invited to help clear the mansion’s grounds by your Grandma Ursula.

However, as you start to clear the driveway, open up the garage, and discover the pool area, you’ll uncover unusual clues that point to something more unnerving hiding within the mansion’s walls. Just when you feel things can’t become any more disconcerting, Grandma Ursula is arrested.

If you hoped to uncover Grandma – and the mansion’s – secrets so easily, things aren’t so simple. Each character you meet carries their own motives. It’s never clear exactly who you can trust and, like any good mystery novel or thriller movie, nothing and no one is quite as they first appear.

You’re not totally alone in your investigation though; Hopewell Bay’s star journalist Jackie Martin is on the case too, although it’s never clear if she’s only in it for the scoop. There’s also a new detective in town and, while it certainly seems that they’re there to help find the truth, it may not be one that Maddie and the Boultons want to get to the bottom of.

Naturally the twists and turns of Merge Mansion’s story and its cast of characters have spurred all manner of speculation within the Merge Mansion community. From conspiracies about the content of Grandma’s pies to the real intentions of Maddie’s AWOL ex-fiancé, Arthur, fans have fanciful ideas of where Metacore is going with the mystery.

It’s understandable, too. Merge Mansion drip feeds its story through seemingly innocuous conversations or via symbols and icons around the environment, driving avid sleuths into a clue-finding frenzy. Mix in some wonderful ad campaigns littered with red herrings and you can see why there are hundreds of fan theory YouTube videos dissecting every element of the game.

Regardless of if these theories are true or not, it’s worth keeping in mind that everything as we know it could change. Just like the unknown fate of the Boulton’s riches, this story is full of surprises and we can’t wait for another year of gripping mystery content to devour.
