How to level up your troops in Empires & Puzzles

Strong troops can make the difference between a narrow loss and a decisive victory in Empires & Puzzles. Whether you're taking on in-game challenges or testing your strategy in multiplayer battles, leveling up your troops is essential for victory. Here are the steps you can take to level up your troops efficiently.

Your troops won’t grow stronger on their own – you’ll need the Barracks to train them. You can unlock the Barracks by converting an existing building (like a Forge). From there, you’ll want to start leveling up your Barracks, as its level directly influences your troops’ highest level. Higher-level troops provide better attack and defense boosts for your heroes, giving you the edge in combat.

To upgrade your main troops, you’ll need feeder troops – lower-level units that can provide XP to your main troops, helping them level up.

Once you have enough feeder troops, head to the Barracks and start upgrading. Be sure to stick to color matching. Feeding troops of the same element – denoted by the same color – provides bonus experience, so use red troops to upgrade red troops, blue for blue, and so on.

Your food supply should always be on your mind. Troop upgrades consume a lot of food, especially at higher levels. Keep your farms upgraded and plan your resource use carefully. Finally, not all troops are worth investing in, so prioritize the right troops. Focus on 3-star and higher troops, as they provide the best long-term benefits.

Once your Stronghold is developed, you can take troop training further. The Hero Academy (available at Stronghold level 25) lets you retrain lower-rarity troops into stronger ones. Meanwhile, the Higher-level Barracks increases the maximum troop level, unlocking even greater stat bonuses.

Building a strong roster of high-level troops takes time, but the effort pays off when your heroes hit harder, survive longer, and dominate the battlefield. Keep training, and you’ll feel the difference in every fight.
