Free Fire: How to improve your character abilities

For a player new to Free Fire, the list of character choices – each with their own abilities – can be daunting. But as you unlock new characters, you'll start to notice a pattern in how some abilities work. Follow these quick tips and you'll have a super-powerful character loadout (or five) before you know it.

After you unlock a character, you’ll be able to use their ability and combine it with other powers in a “preset”, or a loadout-style configuration. Get the most out of these presets by combining active and passive skills. Active skills will give you more tools mid-match, while passive skills will buff stats and keep you in the fight longer. Experiment with different combos to find your perfect mix.

Active abilities are ones you can use at the press of a button to give you a quick edge on the battlefield. Wukong's ability, for example, will transform you into a giant bush, effectively giving you instant camouflage. If you're low on health and being pursued by an enemy, just turn a corner, pop Wukong's ability, and the enemy should run right by.

Passive abilities, on the other hand, offer buffs that last the entire round and don’t need to be activated. A few passive abilities focus on specific stats, like Paloma's increased accuracy. Others are more situational, like Shirou's marking of opponents whenever he damages them. Think about the situations you might find yourself in during a match, and what you might find useful.

Finally, some abilities are much better suited for the different modes of gameplay in Free Fire. If you're logging on for a solo session, abilities that focus on you should be front of the line for consideration – Alvaro's increased explosive range and damage, for example, will likely serve you better if you don't have teammates to worry about.

When logging on with friends, consider abilities that also extend to your teammates. For example, Shirou's previously mentioned ability to mark opponents applies to the rest of your team, too; your pals will also see everyone you've marked. Additionally, Olivia is tailor-made for team play, as players revived by her get extra HP.
