How to get more characters in Honkai: Star Rail

Earning new, powerful characters to bolster your team of fighters is central to Honkai: Star Rail. To get them, you'll need to engage with the game's “Warp” system, which requires exchanging special currencies for new characters and items, and a chance at coveted five-star versions. Here's everything you need to know to bolster your roster.

To unlock access to the Warp system and get new characters, you'll have to progress through Honkai: Star Rail's early story. Keep playing until the Warp system is introduced after reaching the Trailblaze mission called "A Moment of Peace."

There are several different types of Warp, broken into two categories: permanently available Stellar Warps, and short-term Event Warps. Each Warp offers its own set of rewards – for example, the Departure Warp, which is available to new players, includes characters and Light Cones from early Trailblazer missions to get you started.

To purchase a Warp, you need a Star Rail Pass, with each ticket earning you one "pull" from the gacha system. You're guaranteed to get a reward, but the odds of getting the best rewards, like five-star characters, are low on a single pull.

Honkai: Star Rail includes several mechanics that guarantee a certain level of reward after a specific number of pulls to protect against bad luck. However, the results are still based on probabilities and can feel quite random. Your best option is to spend Passes on limited-time events or focusing on the rewards that mean the most to you to avoid wasting your chances.

Honkai: Star Rail has a lot of currencies to contend with when it comes to Warps. Stellar Warps require the Star Rail Pass, while limited-time events require a Star Rail Special Pass, so pay attention to which Warp requires which currency. You can get Rail Passes from certain missions as you play through the game, as well as from a weekly completion of the Simulated Universe event.

The quickest way to get more Star Rail Passes is by purchasing them from the in-game store using Stellar Jade, a currency you can earn throughout the game. You can also buy more Rail Passes using Undying Starlight and Undying Embers – currencies you’ll receive from each of your Warp pulls, regardless of the reward you receive.

The most reliable source of Stellar Jade is your Daily Training missions, so be sure to prioritize completing those each day.

Some missions will also offer Stellar Jade, so pay attention to the rewards when you take on story missions or side quests. You'll also get Stellar Jade from achievements, leveling rewards, some treasure chests, and other game modes and in-game events, so keep your eyes open.
