Collect Pokémon cards in Pokémon TCG Pocket

Get ready for a dazzling wave of nostalgia with Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, a new way to collect and battle with your favorite Pokémon. From the excitement of opening a new pack to the thrill of throwing down an impressive card combo in battle, this new game brings the joy and emotion of the physical cards into spectacular digital versions.

We chatted with Keita Hirobe, a producer on Pokémon TCG Pocket and head of the trading card game business since 2017. He gave us the inside scoop about what went into this reimagined Pokémon experience.

Keita Hirobe: Each year the market for the Pokémon Trading Card Game expands, and many people around the world play it. Despite this, there are still countries and regions where Pokémon cards aren’t widely available. The idea behind this project came from the notion that making Pokémon cards available on mobile devices would allow more people to experience the joy of Pokémon cards.

The most important thing for us during development was the “collection experience.” We aimed to create a game that gives you the excitement of opening a pack, where you can have fun just collecting cards.

However, in incorporating unique digital effects, like those in immersive cards, there’s always the possibility that the realism of the cards will be lost.

For this reason, we made every effort to make it feel like the cards are “tangible” even in this digital medium, such as by allowing you to see the thickness of the card.

These experiences have been jointly developed by Creatures, the developer of the Pokémon
card game, and DeNA, the developer of Pokémon Masters EX.

We did our best to expand the approachability of trading card games. This is a game you can enjoy every day in your spare time. In addition to quicker battles, there are features aimed at helping beginners such as auto battle and rental decks. Many of the rules are the same as the traditional Pokémon TCG, and we hope that this app will encourage more people to play physical Pokémon games too.

First of all, we want players to enjoy encountering your favorite Pokémon and new cards every
day through the daily pack opening experience. I would also like players to collect an immersive
card at least once. When I am playing the game, it’s always exciting when I encounter immersive cards.

In addition to continually adding new expansion packs to Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, we also plan to add features such as trading to make collecting even more enjoyable. We’ll also be adding new logic and improving the battle environment for users, so please look forward to the evolution of this game.
