All the currencies in Honkai: Star Rail

Honkai: Star Rail has many different kinds of currencies, so it can be tough to keep track of what each one does. They’re needed to do everything from leveling up your team to unlocking new characters. Here's everything you need to know about all the currencies in the game.

Most frequently used currencies

The primary currencies and the ones you'll probably see most often in Honkai: Star Rail are the ones that let you buy things in shops. The main way to spend is by using Credits – essentially, Honkai: Star Rail's most common form of money. Use Credits to purchase things you need in the in-game shop, like consumables to heal your party.
There are also shops aboard the Astral Express, where you can use specific currencies to buy new items. Lucent Afterglow and Jade Feathers, other common currencies, are rewards from gameplay modes like the Forgotten Hall. You can exchange Lucent Afterglow for Light Cones and Jade Feathers for crafting materials in their respective Astral Express shops.

Event, mission, and world currencies

Many locations and events have their own particular currencies. You can earn these by exploring various places or completing certain missions, then use them at specific shops.
There are a whole lot of these, like Firefly’s Budget, Aideen Tokens, and Strale. However, because they're usually specific to a certain time or location during the game, you won't have to worry too much about keeping track of them all the time.

Warp currencies

The currencies you'll likely want to pay the most attention to are the Warp currencies, which allow you to buy chances to earn new characters. Use Star Rail Passes and Star Rail Special Passes to buy a "pull" in a particular Warp. Stellar Warps use the Standard Pass, while limited-time Warps use the Special version.
You can purchase more Star Rail Passes in the in-game store with Stellar Jade, a currency you can get from completing missions, participating in Daily Training, and taking on different game modes like the Simulated Universe.
You can also trade Undying Embers and Undying Starlight for Passes and other enhancement materials. You’ll receive a little bit of one or the other from each pull from a Warp.
Finally, Oneiric Shards are Honkai: Star Rail's premium currency, which you can buy with real money. Once purchased, you can exchange it for more Stellar Jade.

Leveling currencies

Characters earn very little experience in Honkai: Star Rail just through playing. You’ll have to spend Character EXP materials to increase their levels. These materials include books called Travel Encounters, which give 1,000 EXP, Adventure Log (5,000 EXP), and Traveler's Guide (20,000 EXP). You can earn them by completing missions and taking on activities in the Simulated Universe and Calyxes.
You can also level up your Light Cones and Relics with different materials. Duplicates can be used to enhance a Light Cone, as can Light Cone EXP materials: Sparse Aether (500 EXP), Condensed Aether (2,000 EXP), and Refined Aether (6,000 EXP). Get more Aether from Calyx (Golden) activities, mission rewards, and in the in-game store.
Relics use Relic EXP materials like Lost Lightdust (100 EXP), Lost Gold Fragment (500 EXP), and Lost Crystal (1,000 EXP). Get them from missions, events, daily check-ins, and the Forgotten Hall.

Simulated Universe currencies

The Simulated Universe is a roguelike game mode where you can earn a lot of rewards. As you play through it, you’ll be able to earn unique currencies that enhance your run through the mode, allowing you to get farther and earn better items. These include Cosmic Fragments and Ability Points.
Spend Cosmic Fragments to buy or upgrade "Blessings," which are random buffs you get on each run. Ability Points unlock permanent upgrades via the Ability Tree that apply to every subsequent run of the Simulated Universe.
