How properties and color sets work in Monopoly GO!

Monopoly GO! remixes classic board game elements into quick, mobile-friendly mechanics. You roll dice, build up landmarks, and collect houses and hotels on properties. This guide explains how properties link to buildings, how color sets work, and how each piece fits into your gameplay rhythm.

Properties and color sets

The game includes several colored properties split across different color sets: Brown, Light Blue, Magenta, Orange, Red, Yellow, Green, and Dark Blue. Completing a color set requires placing hotels on every property of the same color. Once each tile glows, landing on one triggers the Color Wheel reward. After the spin, hotels reset and the cycle begins again.

Landmark buildings, houses, and hotels

Each board features five landmark buildings you can upgrade. Every upgrade adds a green house to a random property tile. Five houses on a tile convert it into a hotel. Buildings also increase your Net Worth stat and boost rent when you or others land on your properties.

How Color Sets unlock rewards

Once all properties in a set have hotels, their tiles start glowing – this means the set is complete. If you land on any of those glowing tiles, you spin the Color Wheel, which can yield extra dice rolls, coins, sticker packs, or vault prizes. During “Wheel Boost” events, you get two spins.

Net Worth and game progress

Each building upgrade adds one Net Worth point. Each hotel upgrade increases your total net worth further, with more valuable color sets contributing more points. Even when hotels reset after a wheel spin or board change, your Net Worth reflects cumulative progress across sessions.
Smart Play Tips
  • Upgrade efficiently: Focus on building landmarks steadily – every upgrade moves you toward a color set win
  • Monitor color set progress: Look for glowing tiles – they show a completed set. Landing on one triggers the reward
  • Time your builds: Coordinate upgrades when a Wheel Boost event is active to gain two spins per completed set
  • Balance property value: Cheap sets (e.g., Brown) are faster to complete, while premium sets (like Dark Blue) yield more in the long run
