How to create and join groups in Roblox

Roblox is a community-based game, and as such, linking up with friends and other players in-game is an important element of the game. Parties, communities, and more are all available with a single tap, and you can even create your own if you choose.
Keeping up with friends via Parties or Communities is the easiest way to play Roblox experiences together. By learning the ins and outs of making groups, you’ll have an easier time navigating the game's ever-growing library of experiences. Below is everything you need to know about joining or creating different groups in Roblox.

What types of groups are in Roblox?

Roblox offers two main ways to join up with friends in-game: Parties and Communities. Parties are limited to specific users who have joined via their friends list, while Communities are more broad groups with hundreds or sometimes thousands of members.
Parties are what you'll want to use if you're joining up with friends for a run in Doors or Dress To Impress. Communities, meanwhile, are public fan groups where you can find other fans to play with, get updates on your preferred games, or learn more about the developers behind those games.

Add friends first

You won't be able to join Parties or Communities without making at least one friend, so first things first: How do you become friends with another user? This option, particularly for new players, should appear right on the main menu when you first open the game.
Tap the plus sign (+) under Add Friends, which will take you to the Friends menu. From here, you can see any user that requested you, a list of users you recently played an experience with, and a search bar so you can find specific users by username. Once you have a roster of friends, you can move on to group creation.

Parties

The main group type you'll be using with your friends is the Party system, which allows you to join up and enter experiences as a group with anyone who has joined your Party. Tap on the Party tab at the bottom of the screen, then select the users you want to party up with to connect with friends.
From here, you and the users you’re in a Party with will join the same experience. This means you'll be paired up in multiplayer games and appear in each other's sessions together for as long as you are partied up. Once one of you logs off of Roblox, the party will shut down and the users will separate.

Communities

If you prefer a broader multiplayer experience, Roblox also offers Communities themed around certain games, experiences, genres, and more. You can find Communities on the Party tab as well, just above the list of your friends on the initial Party screen.
Once you're in the Communities window, a full list of available groups will appear, organized by the overall theme. One set might be focused on a particular studio, while another might be themed on a type of experience – building, horror, etc. Once you find the community you're looking for, just tap on it, and then tap Join Community to become a member.
