Play: What do you think makes Wattpad such a special place for the LGBTQ+ community?
Sarah: You can be free to be yourself and to write what you want. For readers, there’s a comfort and safety in being able to consume content by writers who speak to your experiences, and to read queer narratives you don’t often see in mainstream media. There’s a great community here that you can choose to be a part of, or you can be anonymous and celebrate your identity by reading queer content. It’s really up to the user!
What's your advice for someone who’s considering writing on Wattpad but is nervous to share their story or voice?
The hardest part is starting. Once you’ve done that, you’re well on your way. There are so many readers who are looking for your content and they just don’t know it yet. Write it and show them! But most importantly, write your story for you.
What does this year’s Play Pride theme of “together with Pride" mean to you?
There is power in knowledge and in identity. Community plays a big role in providing both to so many queer and questioning folks; there’s strength that comes from that unity. That’s why I love the content creation space that Wattpad provides, allowing communities to come together and share stories.
