MayaVerse

The MayaVerse is a world closely tied to our own, with similar science and events, but fictional characters. The MayaVerse is named after the primary protagonist, veterinary epidemiologist Dr. Maya Maguire. Maya and her family, friends, and colleagues share the compelling and dramatic world of zoonotic diseases, those spread between animals and humans.

Maya is a nerdy, conflicted, and plucky Chinese American adoptee who battles zoonoses, initially through her work with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) when assigned to the Southwest. But tackling these diseases throughout an alphabetical medical thriller series takes Maya worldwide to combat disease outbreaks and track their origins.

Although the MayaVerse is a fictional series informed by science, it is not science fiction—it does not take place in the future and is not based on apocalyptic, fictional scientific fantasies.
