Alison Alexander

Author Alison Alexander was born and bred in Tasmania and has written or edited 33 books which describe a broad sweep of Tasmania's history. Her book The Ambitions of Jane Franklin, Victorian Lady Adventurer, won the 2014 Australian National Biography Award.Since then she has written histories of Edward Lord, colonial soldier and wily entrepreneur, and his wife, former convict Maria Riseley (the title of the book, Corruption and Skullduggery, says it all), and of pioneer settler and astute businessman Roderic O'Connor.Alison's biography of artist Patricia Giles was published in 2019, and its companion piece, a biography of celebrated watercolour painter Max Angus, was published in 2021.
