Bimal Jalan was the former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India from 1997 to 2003. He was later nominated to the upper house of the Indian Parliament, Rajya Sabha. He attended the Presidency College and later went to Cambridge and Oxford for further studies. He was the Banking Secretary between 1985 and 1989. He also served as the Chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister between 1991 and 1992. He has served in various other capacities under various governments.
