Dr. Roberts is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who focuses his private practice primarily on services to low income kids and families under the name ProKids, Inc., The Message and The Movement. His decision to study psychology was based in his own need to reconcile issues from his childhood, and to understand everything he could about human nature. Dr. Roberts looks beyond what he sees on the outside and looks at the potential within the kids he serves. He encourages his clients to become who they are meant to be rather than give into the pressures and negative influences they frequently face. One of Dr. Roberts basic concepts is that there is Good in all of us. He firmly believes that God is all there is, and all there is is God. ProKids, Inc. is based on the theory that we are all capable of overcoming any obstacles we may have encountered as children. NO one chooses to be born. NO one chooses the circumstances into which they are born. And, NO one chooses their parents. Therefore parents owe their children everything they can give them relative to love, guidance, and support so that kids can become productive and successful members of society as adults. Part of Dr. Roberts message includes a focus on what kids can do with what they have been given. This includes the need to learn from the mistakes adults frequently make in their own lives rather than repeat these errors for themsleves and their children in the future. Part of this responsibility lies in the hands of adults who choose to work with kids in a number of different settings. All adults need to look beyond the surface and see the goodness in those they serve. This is imperative if kids are to have any chance at success, especially if their family environments and communities are filled with complicating factors beyond their ability to control. Nonjudgmental acceptance and positive regard should be the basis for anyone who chooses a profession related to service provision for kids. Ethics, morals, values, competence, and a strong set of ethical principles and standards are also required if integrity and right action are to prevail. Build up rather than break down those we serve. Encourage parents to be committed and devoted to the children they bring into this world. Assist them in their efforts regardless of the mistakes parents may have made. Help them redirect their own lives as an example of how their children should live once they reach adulthood. Be the example!
