Nilan's more than three decades of work with homeless adults and children includes running shelters; advocating for improved homelessness policies; filming/producing award-winning documentaries, My Own Four Walls; on the edge: Family Homelessness in America; and Worn Out Welcome Mat; writing her reader-friendly book, Crossing the Line: Taking Steps to End Homelessness; addressing audiences from Columbia University to Congress; and inspiring a "compassion epidemic" to address homelessness. She co-authored Changing the Paradigm of Homelessness, a college textbook, released in 2020.
