Diane Gonzales Bertrand

Little "Pookie" Gonzaless vivid imagination led her to write her first novel in the fifth grade. She went on to write school plays, Girl Scout skits, and poetry. When she became a teacher, she created funny soap operas, religious plays, and translated Shakespeare into easier words for her students to enjoy and perform. Pookie, now known as Diane Gonzales Bertrand, currently writes stories for families to read together. Her picture books include: Caldo, Caldo, Caldo, The Last Doll, Family/Familia, and Uncle Chentes Picnic. These last two books won best bilingual book awards from the National Latino Literary Hall of Fame. Diane lives with her family in San Antonio, Texas.
