E. Fred Schubert

E. Fred Schubert received his Ph.D. degree with Honors in Electrical Engineering from University of Stuttgart, Germany, in 1986. From 1985 to 1995, he worked at AT&T Bell Laboratories in Holmdel and Murray Hill, New Jersey; the first two years as a post-doctoral Member of Technical Staff, and then as a Member of Technical Staff and Principal Investigator. In 1995, he joined academia, first Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts, and then, in 2002, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. He made pioneering contributions to the fields of semiconductor doping, microelectronics, optoelectronics, and lighting. He has co-authored more than 300 publications including the books “Doping in III–V Semiconductors” (1993), “Delta Doping of Semiconductors” (1996), and “Light-Emitting Diodes” (first edition 2003; second edition 2006). He is co-inventor of more than 30 US Patents. He received several awards and is a Fellow of the APS, IEEE, OSA, and SPIE.
