Lima Barreto

Lima Barreto (1881–1922) was a Brazilian journalist and novelist whose work gave voice to the poor and marginalised in Rio de Janeiro at the turn of the century. Triste Fim de Policarpo Quaresma (1915) is considered one of the greatest novels in Brazilian literature — a tragicomic portrait of a patriot destroyed by the state he loved.
