John Rundle was born in 1950 and grew up on the family farm at Mount Crawford. He grew to love the farm and everything that went with it. He attended Birdwood primary and high schools and then left home for his tertiary studies in Adelaide where he gained a bachelor of surveying from the South Australian Institute of Technology. He later undertook post graduate study in urban and regional planning at the University of New England. John spent the first nine years of his working career in Adelaide. In 1980 he moved to Queensland and established a surveying business firstly in Gladstone and then also in Rockhampton. He co-authored a history of his Rundle forebears published in 2013, Farmers, Devon to South Australia. He is married to Merrilyn and has two children and five grandchildren.
