Rodney Skager has been Director of the California Attorney General's Biennial Survey of Student Substance Use from 1985 to 2010. At UCLA he taught graduate courses in counseling and personality, quantitative and qualitative research methods, AOD counseling and intervention and undergraduate courses on adolescent development, educational psychology, and drug prevention education. He served as Program Director for the School's Center for the Study of Evaluation and Associate Dean of the School. He has published research and theory on prevention, prevalence of substance use among youth, and correlates of substance abuse in the youth population. He was an original member of the Board of Directors of Phoenix House of California, a staff member at WestEd, and a TA Panel member for Evaluation, Management, and Training Associates. He has evaluated programs for at-risk youth, gang prevention, alcohol and drug use prevention, and professional training in the addictions. He has worked with community agencies serving alcohol and drug-addicted clients, treatment facilities, and industrial employee assistance programs as well as school-based prevention programs. Recently he conducted an on-site study of the Police-in-Schools Program (Victoria, Australia), a harm reduction approach that focuses on child and youth safety including drug and alcohol use. He is a frequent speaker or facilitator at workshops, conferences, and community forums on incidence, prevention, and intervention. These includes recent work in Australia, Canada, Italy and Puerto Rico.
