Formerly a community organizer and university professor, and currently a small business owner, Roger Kahn first visited the tiny town of Crested Butte in the late 1960's and ever since then, he has been watching the community evolve from the remnants of a former mining town and ranching community in western Colorado, into the nationally known, well-developed, cosmopolitan tourist town and recreation community it is today. It is a prototype for the new "recreation exurbs" that are found on the nation's coasts, in her mountains, and even in its deserts.
