Sean Matula

Sean Matula worked as a firefighter for 20 years before being injured on the job, leaving him disabled. Hisemployer, the workers’ compensation insurance carrier, and the company doctor all denied his claim,leaving him with little hope for care or benefits. After several years and countless hours fighting for hisrights as an injured worker, Sean was able to win his claim without the help of an attorney. To do this, hehad to fight the Texas Department of Insurance, The Office of Injured Employee Counsel, and theOccupational Safety & Health Administration. Because of his terrible experience, he decided to write thisguide to help injured workers in Texas easily understand the Texas Workers’ Compensation system. Seancontinues to recover from his injury and currently serves on the board of directors of an environmentalnon-profit. He also helps organizations as a private consultant for health, safety, security, andenvironmental matters.
