Susan Ware

Susan Ware, editor, is an acclaimed historian and biographer whose books include Why They Marched: Untold Stories of the Women Who Fought for the Right to Vote, American Women’s History: A Very Short Introduction, and Letter to the World: Seven Women Who Shaped the American Century. She served as Honorary Women’s Suffrage Centennial Historian at the Schlesinger Library on the History of Women in America at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, Harvard University from 2016 to 2022 and as General Editor of American National Biography from 2012 to 2022. Her commentary was featured in The Vote, the multipart PBS American Experience documentary on the suffrage movement. For the Library of America, she edited American Women's Suffrage: Voices from the Long Struggle for the Vote 1776–1965. Her next book, Speaking Louder Than I Can: The Power of Feminist Biography, will be published by Oxford University Press in May 2026.
