What saved this film from a large amount of historical inaccuracies is that this film was not made for education. It has prehistoric fantasy aspects and made-up storytelling within the construction that's similar to the inaccuracies and genre of The Land Before Time in terms of the culture and the animals. For a simplistic epic adventure like this, the movie does a solid effort delivering deep substance and likable protagonists. D'leh is not only the hero for the ages, he is honest (does not tell a lie) and he does have a fierce predator in his heart. Roland Emmerich did such a good job with his direction, he knows how to make the action aggressive with earth-shaking excitement, and he knows the right time of what is going to happen next. The acting went from surprisingly decent to mediocre, most of their performances have been sprinkled with a caveman-like manner, however some the acting does needs some improvement. The camera work does have some great epic scale and wide open scope (from a herd of massive woolly mammoths, to many different places with hills and mountains), and let's not forget to mention that the fast camera shots and cuts bring such frantic impact. The sound effects of the film are absolutely incredible, (the footsteps of the mammoths brings deep bass ground shaking sounds, the sounds of aggressive hitting and wiping makes you flinch). The villains are threatening and vicious, from the hard-hitting warlord, to the vicious-looking one-eye. The colossal music score is aggressively epic, but the music can also sound pretty somber and tender and when it gets to the action cues, it's thunderous, powerful, and unsettling. The CGI creatures are very well executed and blends in well in the backgrounds. The narration by Omar Sharif brings wise and nostalgic resonance in his voice. Yeah, The movie does have it's flaws with some of the acting, dialogue, and some animal inaccuracies, but they can be fixed easily. Overall: A simplistic and aggressively fun prehistoric gimmicky ride that is a little heavy on flaws, not too serious, it's just treading into the familiar property within the storytelling of the land before time. Worth a rental.

Again...for all you wanna be critiques please do not quit your day job. As for rotten tomatoes they are called that for a reason...they are rotten!. So many good movies have been so underrated because most people cannot make their own judgement and listen and follow the advice of fools. Critiques are like a sub culture a disease just like rotten tomatoes, they will make or break a movie if the price is right. But they can only do it when they have fools like most of you giving this movie a bad rap. Do your self a favor and stop reading reviews and get back into watching movies. Mama always said , if you have nothing good to say, don't say anything.

I like the special effects in the movie, and you can see how one part transitions to the next well. The only downside is that some of the creatures weren't accurate to the time period. Otherwise one of my favorites.
