Willie Elliott
The plot is absolutely in-genius, however, it was not performed as such. The vivid scenes were astonishing and it took haunted hotel movies to a new level, but the acting did not fulfill the plot's requirements. The main character often portrayed himself in a way that made moments that should have been scary, rather humorous. The movie is very suspenseful but prolonged as well. The ending is very disappointing as well. During the movie it was told by Samuel L Jackson that, "Nobody has lasted in the room for more than 1 hour". However, once the hour is up we are left to find that a new hour has begun and that he has not beat the time as we had hoped. Concludingly he is stuck in the hotel with no chance of escape. At this point of the movie one gives up hope as he does in which he chooses to commit suicide. On the plus side, his death was not in vein; for, nobody will never suffer the pain that he endured ever, ever, ever, again. To summarize, see the theatrical ending its right on Youtube, it will make your life complete.

One of my favorite horror films, right up there with The Shining, Storm of the Century, and The Mist. This psychological suspense rather than gory, monster stuff, so if you're into that, look elsewhere. Great stuff if you're into a tension-building brain-bender though. Great performances, one of Cusack's best.
