Magnificent film, but a poor HD transfer! This is clearly not the remastered version and it shows. To be fair the Play Store does not claim it is, but it would have been nice if they offered that version at a slightly higher price. Still worth buying on the current promotion though. Amazing movie but spoilt by this very poor HD transfer 👎 No option for a refund though.

The film itself is five stars, of course. But whilst this digital version looks fine on my smartphone, it is horribly cropped when cast to the (16:9) TV. There are black bars top and bottom as expected for a wide-screen film, but the picture area within that is cropped for some reason. Kubrick didn't frame his shots to lop the top off people's heads! Please sort this out, Google.

Although it's vision of a somewhat non diverse and non equal future has dated, the pristinely elegant beauty of 2001 (1968) is undeniable. Highly recommended to all science fiction enthusiasts worldwide.
