After a deadly crash, Mission Controller Mackenzie "Nack" Wilson (Katee Sackhoff, "Battlestar Gallactica") assists an artificial intelligence system, A.R.T.I., to uncover a mysterious object under the surface of Mars that could change the future of our planet as we know it. Together, Mack and A.R.T.I. expose a web of international conspiracies which put Earth at risk. Can Mack find a place for humans in a technology-dominated future and solve the mystery of the cube?

In a word .. "Trippy." Origins Unknown is like Space Odyssey, Lost in Space reboot Robot, Star Trek V'Ger and a half a dozen other Sci-Fi movies had a baby. The Mars pea soup dust storms is a little over the top and annoying. All in all it was an okay movie with interesting AI conundrum.

The first 20 minutes had one bright spot in the lead actress but the unscientific space travel, really stupid plot , juvenile dialog and cheesy special effects are just too much to take. Not even for Katie. It looks like it's directed at people with the attention span of a gnat who won't question anything (like instant communication) and not care that the operator finds out 5 hours before the landing mission that she isn't running the show but the AI is and then it promptly runs into an unexpected problem that she has to solve by doing math on a paper pad in less than a minute to save the day. It only gets worse as it goes.

I love movies about AI's and SciFi, but this movie was boring and took place in only one room. There were some good concepts about AI's becoming the top of the food chain etc. but I wouldn't recommend renting this!
