A good movie, although in parts the dialogue is a little hard to follow at times due to the strong accents of the characters, but well worth seeing. For anybody who knows much about "The Troubles", it will resonate, with graphic depictions of the violence, hatred, and overall senselessness of a country coming apart from political and religious strife. It is also a well-nuanced film, showing quite accurately the difficulty of being a soldier deployed to an environment where the enemy is not well-defined, and the danger of being in close contact with such an enemy. I give it five stars, unhesitatingly.

The Troubles is a period most unusual to all that hail from outside the British Isles. This movie places the historical context squarely against a personal vantage of a british soldier. The movie is pognant, wonderful in its directness, and the acting is incredibly profound. Perhaps, for brits and Irish, norn' Irelanders, it is too cliché for historical value, but as a north american, the movie dives deep into the state of mind of the time with jarring realism and deep meaning.
