Viewers expecting a thriller may be disappointed, because there are no eye-catching events or reversals, and the most serious thing in the whole film has always been Alice's inner anxiety and pain. The actor playing the controlling boyfriend absolutely nails it. I like the scene at the end with the splitting maul...
