About this movie

Two-time Oscar®-winner Tom Hanks portrays Mister Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, a timely story of kindness triumphing over cynicism, based on the true story of a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod. After a jaded magazine writer (Emmy winner Matthew Rhys) is assigned a profile of Fred Rogers, he overcomes his skepticism, learning about empathy, kindness, and decency from America’s most beloved neighbor.

It builds slowly and is beautifully put together. I loved it. Being from the UK I do not know the program in question, but that didn't stop me enjoying the film. When so many films are made to shock, this is a breath of fresh air and it and shows how, at times, saying nothing can say more than talking all the while. It is unashamedly pleasant. It still challenges you, though, by making you think about how we treat others. This is a film that sits in your head for a few days after, for sure.

I'm from England, so I only knew about Mr Rogers from memes and vine before watching this, but Tom Hanks performance made me feel like I had known Fred Rogers all my life. I completely forgot it was Hanks playing the role...he seemed to completely embody the character in every way. Truly a beautiful movie. I read the article afterwards and the movie certainly does it justice. The direction is moving and perfectly captures the emotion in every moment. I rented this film, watched it twice and decided to buy it. (It's worth the tax lol) I will definitely be watching this again. It is such an emotionally provoking film. I think people from the ages of 7-8 upwards will probably enjoy this.

Very touching, and introduced me to one of America's greatest legends. I had no idea who the central character was, as his show was not available in the UK, but I've watched a few now and love his approach to bringing up children and exploring life with everyone around you
