Yakın gelecekte, özellikle annesine karşı sonsuz bir sevgi besleyen ve hakiki insani duyguları olan robot David, gerçek oğlu şifasız bir hastalık yüzünden "kriyo-staz" konumuna giren Monica tarafından evlatlık edinilir. Monica ve kocasıyla mutlu bir şekilde yaşayan David'in hayatı, çiftin gerçek oğlunun iyileşerek eve dönmesiyle dramatik bir şekilde değişir. Brian Aldiss'in "Super-Toys Last All Summer Long" adlı kısa hikayesinden esinlenen bu filmin yönetmeni Steven Spielberg.

Not the full five stars. Why? Because Steven created a real stunner but failed to get his essential message across. He was aiming to get to the childless couples who yearned for a true family. Instead he created a new AI species with individual lives that totally surpassed those of humans. BTW, I broke down several times afterwards with the image of that little boy sitting there for 3 000 years waiting for his mummy, it was as hard as watching the firefighters filing into the towers on 911.

Not an emotional person at all but the only film that can make me cry in the entire world. I have never understood why. What's to say, it's Spielberg at his best, around his exploration of the future phase.... Genius movie that is basically an update of Pinocchio. Incredible.

This film was way better under Spielberg's direction and the ending was one of the best. Watch it and be hushed and heartwarmed.
