Nostalgia is put through the wringer as in A Legacy of Whining as Dunc and Mitch discover that the only thing lamer than a sentimental clinging to the past is the middle-age man convinced he's still 'got it'. Mitch (writer/director Ross Munro) whines, sure, but with a touching hopefulness. Dunc (Robert David Duncan) is more jaded, but we're on his side, too, because we suspect he knows his own rejection of Mitch's continued love of everything from vintage cinnamon coffee to classic punk rock ("...I think it's Sir Johnny Snotnose now...") are the same kind of defensive gestures we might use (from time to time) to distance ourselves from our own disappointments and failures; the same kind of balm we might try to apply to the wounds of time and love. We whine, struggle and dream. Meanwhile, as Martin Amis writes in London Fields, "time goes about its immemorial work of making everyone look and feel like shit." Indeed. But A Legacy of Whining reminds us that accepting this bitter truth doesn't have to be morbid. In fact, it can be pretty funny.

Amazing movie; fascinating treatment of an age group & demographic rarely seen. Covers a dizzying array of emotions from comedy to profound sadness all at the same time. Characters are cleverly portrayed as seemingly superficial but yet are addictive to watch. Dialogue holds you rapt throughout; pay attention closely or you miss the depths of this movie.

A Legacy of Whining is a unique indie comedy from director, and actor, Ross Munro. The film and its script have an original sense of humor that I enjoyed. The plot concerns two middle aged friends who meet up after 30 years and get themselves into some unusual situations late one night. The film excels in embracing awkward comedy and not taking itself too seriously. This indie find really goes for it and doesn't hold back. I genuinely appreciate little indie comedies like these. I'd recommend A Legacy of Whining to anyone who also enjoys unique indie comedies as well.
