Academy Award-winner Kate Winslet stars in this romantic drama as Sabine, a strong-willed and talented landscape designer, who is chosen to build one of the main gardens at the new palace at Versailles in the court of King Louis XIV (Alan Rickman). In her new position of power, she challenges gender and class barriers while also becoming professionally and romantically entangled with the court’s renowned landscape artist André Le Notre (Matthias Schoenaerts). Louis XIV's court - especially when they were contemplating and working on such a grandiose "folie" like Versailles - was not as grey, dull and depressing as is the general atmosphere of this film. The intrigues, the verbal brawls, the affairs, the dancing, the effervescence and the partying of the time are not conveyed in "A little chaos". The only sparkle comes from Stanley Tucci - no surprise there - who plays Philippe d'Orléans, gay brother of the Sun King. Disappointing.

Grossly historically inaccurate which would be OK if it had a compelling story. It does not. Asked to believe that a woman would have ever been invited to design a garden at Versailles, this potentially inspiring feminist fairytale is completely undermined when she sleeps with her boss. Alan Rickman can't seem to decide what he wants this movie to be and so it ends up being nothing much.

This was a decent movie with a very sweet story .. But why they are listing this as a comedy is completly BEYOND me. Funny it is not.. Its actually a pretty serious drama....Strange
