Ostracized at her uptown school and shaken by the death of her beloved grandmother, a 10 year-old downtown girl finds an unlikely mentor in the form of an irascible chess-master, who uses chess to teach lessons in resilience, perseverance.

This movie was ok. Reminded me a lot of "searching for Bobbie Fisher" story but with a girl. Couldn't believe the dad was Ralph macchio..... from karate kid... I had to check the credits.... twice.

Great family movie. Lacked the extreme emotional Rollercoaster of typical movies. Great for kids learning chess.
