A MOST VIOLENT YEAR is a searing crime drama set in New York City during the winter of 1981, statistically the most dangerous year in the city’s history. From acclaimed writer/director J.C. Chandor, and starring Oscar Isaac (INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS) and Jessica Chastain (ZERO DARK THIRTY), this gripping story plays out within a maze of rampant political and industry corruption plaguing the streets of a city in decay. J.C. Chandor’s third feature examines one immigrant’s determined climb up a morally crooked ladder, where simmering rivalries and unprovoked attacks threaten his business, family, and - above all - his own unwavering belief in the righteousness of his path. With A MOST VIOLENT YEAR, Chandor journeys in a bold new direction, toward the place where best intentions yield to raw instinct, and where we are most vulnerable to compromise what we know to be right.

Birdman may have won best picture, and it may be worthy of that title, but the fact that A Most Violent Year was not even considered for the award is an outrage. The movie has a simple plot and storyline, but unlike most films, this works in the film's favor. It features excellent performances from Isaac and Chastain, even though Abel's (Issac) unwillingness to take action can sometimes be annoying, it's also what makes you respect him that much more. This film, like Abel, deserves more respect.

There were about 5 minutes of violence in this movie. Mostly just a lot of talking. They talked in riddles, no one said what they wanted to say out right. If you this based on the title that you will get mob like violence.. think again. This movoe was 2 hours of hoping it would pick up soon. But it never did. Cant see how it was oscar nominated.

I felt this film was VERY slow moving story wise . And the main character was so unlikable egotistical & full of himself (like the world revolved around him & his big American Dream business power move) that it was kinda of hard to like this guy. I wanted to give him a good smack in the mouth. But with that said the direction is on point and the cinematography was good the film looks beautiful. & the movie really captured the early 80s vibe of New York City. So I'm giving it 2 stars for the later mentions.
