After spending two decades in England, Bill Bryson returns to the U.S., where he decides the best way to connect with his homeland is to hike the Appalachian Trail with one of his oldest friends. The writer and his ex-alcoholic friend Stephen Katz try to walk the 2,100-mile Appalachian Trail, in the process making sly observations about the world around them and their own lives. Based on the novel by Bill Bryson.
