À propos de ce film

The night after another unsatisfactory New Year party, Tim's (Domhnall Gleeson) father (Bill Nighy) tells his son that the men in his family have always had the ability to travel through time. Tim can't change history, but he can change what happens and has happened in his own life so he decides to make his world a better place...by getting a girlfriend (Rachel McAdams). But as his unusual life progresses, Tim finds out that his unique gift can't save him from the sorrows and ups and downs that affect all families, everywhere. From filmmaker Richard Curtis (Love Actually, Notting Hill, Four Weddings and a Funeral), About Time is a comedy about love and time travel, which discovers that, in the end, making the most of life may not need time travel at all.

It's nothing that will redefine the romcom as we know it but the simple use of time travel is probably one of the few times I've seen it used well. More as a device to give perception to your present moment. I think the movie is more than the sum of its parts. While Bill Nighy is of course his brilliant self and Rachel McAdams is very lovely, Domhnall Gleeson does an awesome job of being who exactly needs to be in this movie, an ordinary, relatable person. It was better than I expected it to be.

My wife and I have watched it more than once. I even don't mind the one little plot glitch with the last time travel sequence, simply because the acting and the richness of the characters far outweighs that. It uses time travel less to add drama and more to advance the narrative about growing up and facing life on life's terms--even for a "time traveler with cancer who retires so he can play more table tennis with his son."

This movie definitely exceeded my expectations. On the surface, it's a cute and quirky love story. Honestly, I thought that was all I was going to get. What took by surprise was that there was more to it than that. I don't want to ruin it for anyone so I won't go into the details, but I actually felt happy after watching it. If you want to see a movie that that just makes you feel good, then this is a must see no matter how old you are. Edit: Didn't realize it was rated R. If you're over 18, you'll love it!
