Jessica Biel stars as Alice, a small-town waitress who starts behaving erratically after a freak accident leaves a nail lodged in her head. Lacking health insurance, Alice cannot afford to have the nail removed, so her strange and often hypersexual behavior intensifies. Alice decides to travel to Washington D.C. to rally support for her medical cause. She meets Howard Birdwell (Academy Award®-nominee Jake Gyllenhaal), an enthusiastic yet inexperienced young senator who champions her fight for medical care.
