Trope-y and a bit ridiculous at times, but the two leads work hard to elevate their characters past being mere caricatures, and there's real enjoyment to be had in their adventures in (a very beautifully filmed) Costa Rica. Cinematic comfort food with a good heart and very re-watchable performances by Harden and Jaenada. (And don't be too fooled by the poster: this is almost more of a friendship movie than an out-and-out romance. Yes, they do culminate the plot by making it at least tangentially a love story, but 95% of their time together is spent on the progression of understanding and respect between the two lead characters. That burgeoning friendship/relationship is what carries the movie along, even through the sillier bits.)

Juan's infectious positivism is hard to resist. No surprises here but when you are at your lowest point, sometimes the possibilities do open for you. Simple, sweet, and hopeful.
