Bob Muldoon (Affleck) and Ruth Guthrie (Mara), an impassioned young outlaw couple, are finally apprehended after a shootout in the Texas hills. Although Ruth wounds local officer Sheriff Wheeler (Ben Foster), Bob takes the blame and is sent to jail. Four years later, Bob escapes from prison and sets out to reunite with his beloved wife and the daughter he has never met, with dramatic and heart-breaking consequences.
