Viewers expecting a thriller may be disappointed, because there are no eye-catching events or reversals, and the most serious thing in the whole film has always been Alice's inner anxiety and pain. It's not that nothing happens, but most of the time, the movie is just a platter of petty and anguished close-ups of Anna. The actor playing the controlling boyfriend absolutely nails it. I like the scene at the end with the splitting maul...
