About this movie

Based on the true life story of William Wilberforce (Ioan Gruffudd), a leader of the British abolition movement, the film chronicles his epic struggle to pass a law to end the slave trade in the late 18th century. Along the way, Wilberforce meets intense opposition from members of Parliament who feel the slave trade is tied to the stability of the British Empire. Several friends, including Wilberforce's minister, John Newton (Albert Finney), a reformed slave ship captain who penned the beloved hymn "Amazing Grace," urge him to see the cause through.

Excellent script, beautiful acting! One of the greatest stories in Western history! One man sacrificed so much to help others, because he knew God called him to accomplish a mission. Excellent portrayals of Wilberforce, Newton, and Pitt. Truly an inspirational film. The closing sequence with the band playing "Amazing Grace" is one of the coolest musical moments in film.

He had money but people were more important. He had a well furnished home, but he filled it with hurt and abandoned animals. He cared more about how he could converse with a woman than how she looked. In a word, he had class.
